Privacy policy
Black Airplane ("we") operates Barnstorm, a read-only analytics product for organizations that run social media accounts. This policy explains what Barnstorm collects, how it's used, who it's shared with, and how to have it deleted.
What we collect
From people who use Barnstorm
Your name, work email address, the identifier your sign-in provider gives us, your role, when you last signed in, and a security log of sign-ins and changes you make. We use a session cookie to keep you signed in, and no advertising or tracking cookies.
From social accounts an organization connects
- Account details: name, handle, profile image and follower counts.
- Posts and videos: titles, captions, publish times, formats and links.
- Performance: views, reach, likes, comments, shares, saves, watch time and similar numbers the network reports.
- Comments on the organization's own posts: the comment text, the commenter's public display name and when it was posted.
We don't access direct messages, and we don't collect private data about the people who follow a connected account.
How we use it
Only to show the connecting organization how its accounts are performing: scoreboards, post and video comparisons, tour-stop reports, and summaries of fan conversation on its own posts. We don't sell this data, use it for advertising, or combine one organization's data with another's.
Barnstorm estimates the sentiment and themes of comments as a group, and staff can correct those estimates. We don't build profiles of individual fans, and we don't try to infer anyone's age, race, religion, politics, sexual orientation or health. Estimates are labeled as ours, not the network's.
Who we share it with
Inside an organization, the people it has invited to Barnstorm can see its connected accounts' data. Outside it, we use these service providers, who may process data only on our instructions:
- Anthropic: comment text is sent to its Claude API to estimate sentiment and themes and to write summaries.
- Laravel Cloud: application hosting and database.
- Resend: sending email such as invitations and alerts.
We may also disclose data if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Comment text and commenter names: refreshed from the network or deleted within 30 days. Group-level estimates derived from them, with no text attached, may be kept for up to 36 months.
- Titles, captions and similar content: refreshed or deleted within 30 days.
- Statistics: kept while the account stays connected, up to the limit each network allows, which for some YouTube statistics is 36 months.
- Raw responses from networks: 30 days.
- Security logs: kept as long as needed to protect the service.
YouTube
Barnstorm uses YouTube API Services. By connecting a YouTube channel, you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's Privacy Policy applies to the data Google handles. You can remove Barnstorm's access at any time from your Google security settings. When access is removed through Barnstorm we delete that channel's stored data within 7 days, and when it's removed through Google, within 30 days.
Instagram and TikTok
You can remove Barnstorm's access from your Instagram or TikTok settings at any time, or from Barnstorm. Either way, we stop collecting from that account and delete what came from it.
Deleting your data
See how to delete your data. If you left a comment on a connected account and want it removed from Barnstorm, deleting it on the network removes it from Barnstorm within 30 days, or you can email us.
Security
See how we protect data. No system is perfectly secure, and we'll notify affected organizations of a breach as the law requires.
Children
Barnstorm is a workplace tool, and it isn't for children. Public comments on a connected account may have been written by anyone, including minors, which is one reason we don't profile individual commenters.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data. Email us and we'll help, or point you to the organization that connected the account.
Changes and contact
We'll post changes here and tell organizations about significant ones. Questions go to your organization's Barnstorm contact.
